Old and new challenges of incompressible computational fluid dynamics in cardiovascular problems

With the progressive use of computational fluid dynamics for supporting medical doctors decision in clinical treatment of cardiovascular diseases, new and old challenges arise in terms of efficiency and reliability. In this talk, we will consider some of them, particularly related to (1) the efficient stabilization and solution of incompressible steady flows (as a surrogate of time average solutions over a heartbeat); (2) the reliable treatment of defective boundary data problems. Applications will be illustrated to corinary as well as aortic diseases.
